A Historic Day for Soccer in Manitoba

The Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association is thrilled to celebrate the announcement that the Northern Super League will be expanding to Winnipeg for the 2027 season, bringing professional women's soccer to Manitoba for the very first time. This is more than the addition of a new club—it is the realization of a dream that generations of players, coaches, volunteers, and supporters have helped build.

For our soccer community, this moment is made even more special by the leadership of two individuals whose names have become synonymous with the game in Manitoba. Desiree Scott, an Olympic Gold Medalist, four-time Olympian, and one of Canada's most respected players, will help lead the club as Vice President, Community & Player Experience, while Rob Gale, a longtime coach, technical leader, and passionate advocate for player development, will serve as the club's Chief Sporting Officer. Their commitment to growing the game has already left an incredible mark on our province, and now they have the opportunity to shape the next chapter of soccer history in Manitoba.

For today's young players, the pathway to the highest level of the game has never been clearer. Children who lace up their boots at community fields across Winnipeg and Manitoba can now dream of one day playing professionally without having to imagine that opportunity somewhere else. They can see it being built right here at home.
