No one ever said refereeing was going to be easy, but this guide can certainly help make it easier. The Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) has authorized the publication of this edition of this manual for youth referees. Its contents have been put together to assist you in carrying out your duties as a referee. Included is information for use before, during and after games, field listings and contact numbers of people who can assist you and answer questions. There are also suggestions on how to deal with players and club officials in certain situations. The contents should be used in conjunction with the FIFA Laws of the Game while using "ÂLAW 18 - Common Sense" and keeping in mind a sense of FAIR PLAY. PLEASE READ IT CAREFULLY.
You will also find a youth referee survey, which, with your input, will help WYSA make improvements to the Referee Development Program. Please take a few minutes towards the end of the spring or fall seasons to fill out the survey and return it promptly to your Referee in Chief or to WYSA.
One situation that you may come across is being shouted at excessively - something that WYSA is strongly against and is trying to curb. If you have an experience that you find unpleasant or have a question as to whether you made the right call or not, use the numbers in this book to call for help. Don'ÃÂÃÂt be scared or feel intimidated. Your Referee in Chief, District Assignor, and indeed any Senior Referee in your area have, most likely, been through that experience before and can offer support and advice. We are all here to help you and make your experience as a referee as enjoyable as possible.
If you have any questions about this guide please call your District Referee-in-Chief.
